About Emily Jacobson
I Didn’t Set Out to Become a Nervous System Coach.
But once I discovered this work, I couldn't stop learning about it.
Hi, I'm Emily. I'm a certified Neuro-Somatic Intelligence coach specializing in nervous system regulation, and I'm fascinated by the gap between knowing how we want to respond and actually being able to respond that way when we're under stress.
Because for a long time, I knew that gap personally.
I could understand myself. Analyze myself. Talk myself through what I was feeling. I could know, rationally, that I was safe or that something wasn't as big a deal as my body seemed to think it was.
And sometimes my body simply did not care. I could still feel anxious. Overwhelmed. Reactive. Braced for something to go wrong.
Learning about the nervous system gave me a completely different way to understand those experiences. More importantly, it gave me something I hadn't had before: a way to work with them.
The Nervous System Became My Lens
The more I learned, the more I started seeing nervous system patterns everywhere:
In anxiety. In overwhelm.
In the moment a parent knows she doesn't want to yell…and yells anyway.
In the person who freezes under pressure.
In the entrepreneur who wants to put herself out there but can't seem to publish that reel.
In that strange experience of knowing you're okay while your body is behaving as though you're absolutely not.
These may look like completely different problems.
But sometimes, underneath them, there is a nervous system that has become very good at protecting you…
…and could use some help becoming more flexible.
That's the work I became fascinated by.
And it's the work I've devoted myself to ever since.
My Approach: Your Nervous System Isn't Generic
I'm certified in Neuro-Somatic Intelligence (NSI), an approach that combines nervous system education, somatic practices, and applied neurology. I teach clients form a toolkit of more than 50 exercises that create measurable change, really fast.
But having a giant toolbox isn't the part I find most interesting. Figuring out which tools work for you is.
One person might respond beautifully to a particular breathing practice. Someone else may notice almost nothing. A sensory or movement-based exercise might create a meaningful shift for one nervous system and be completely unremarkable to another.
That's why I use and teach an assess/reassess process. You measure what's happening in your system. You introduce an input. You measure again, and you measure what changed. The tools that land positively stay, and those that don’t go.
Over time, you stop collecting generic “nervous system hacks” and start building something much more useful: Your own personalized regulation toolkit.
I don't want you dependent on me to tell you what your nervous system needs. I want you to become increasingly fluent in your own.
Before I Was a Coach,
I Was a Communicator
My path here wasn't linear.
Before becoming a nervous system coach, I spent years working in professional communications—including serving as the final quality-control reviewer on public reports for the Denver Auditor's Office and later teaching professional writing to government auditors.
That career trained me to do something I still love: take complicated ideas and make them understandable, practical, and usable.
Eventually, I realized I loved teaching even more than editing. That realization helped lead me toward coaching, facilitation, and eventually Neuro-Somatic Intelligence.
On the surface, editing government audit reports and teaching nervous system regulation may look like two completely unrelated careers.
To me, there's a throughline. I'm endlessly curious about how things work. I want to understand the mechanism. Then I want to translate what I've learned into something another person can actually use.
That's exactly how I approach the nervous system.
The Values Woven Into My Work
-
You are the ultimate authority on your experience. My role isn't to tell you what you should feel or what your body needs. It's to give you information, tools, and a process for discovering that for yourself.
-
We don't need to judge a response in order to change it. “That's interesting” is often a much more useful starting point than “What's wrong with me?”
-
There is no universally perfect regulation tool. Your nervous system has its own history, sensitivities, preferences, and responses. We work with the system you actually have.
-
Change is hard enough without shame becoming part of the strategy. You can want something to change while still understanding why the pattern developed in the first place.
-
I love the science. I love understanding the why. But ultimately, a tool needs to be usable in your actual life — when you're anxious, overwhelmed, overstimulated, under pressure, or two seconds away from saying something you'll regret.
Nervous System Regulation Isn't About Being Calm All the Time
And I don't want it to become one more standard you're failing to meet.
You are supposed to have emotions. You're supposed to respond to stress. Your nervous system is supposed to activate when the situation calls for it.
The goal isn't permanent calm. It's greater flexibility.
More capacity to experience stress without immediately being overtaken by it. More ability to recover when the stressful moment is over. More space between what happens and what you do next. More access to the person you already know how to be.
That's the work I'm here for.
